About the Compress PDF to 1 MB
A 1 MB limit is common for resumes, project reports, tender and GST documents, and many email systems and web forms that keep attachments small.
This page is set to 1 MB. It first tries the gentlest options: repacking the file, then re-encoding photos and scans step by step, keeping text and drawings as they are. If that still is not small enough, it offers to save each page as an image at a lower resolution, which almost always fits but makes the text unselectable, so you decide.
How to use the Compress PDF to 1 MB
- 1
Drop your PDF on the page. The limit is already set to 1 MB.
- 2
Press Compress PDF. The gentlest compression that gets under the limit is used.
- 3
If the PDF is still too big, choose whether to turn its pages into images to reach the limit.
- 4
Download the PDF and check its size next to the button before uploading.

- Savings depend on the file. PDFs that are mostly text are often small already and may shrink only a little.
- CMYK images, masked images and other unusual image types are left unchanged.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
- Up to 100 MB per file. Large scans need enough free memory and can take a minute.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't some PDFs reach 1 MB with text kept?
Text and drawings are already compact, so they cannot be squeezed much. If a document has many pages or a lot of embedded fonts, it can stay over a small limit even with tiny images; then saving pages as pictures is the remaining option.
How is a KB counted?
As 1,000 bytes, the stricter of the two conventions, so a file under 1 MB here is also under 1 MB on forms that count 1,024 bytes.
How small will my PDF get?
Scanned documents and PDFs full of photos often shrink by half or more on the Recommended level. Text-only PDFs usually shrink much less, because text is already compact.
Will the text still be selectable?
Yes. Only images are re-encoded. Text stays real text, so you can still search, select and copy it, and it prints sharply.
What if the compressed file is still too big?
Try Size limit mode: if even the strongest image compression is not enough, it offers to save each page as a picture, which reaches much smaller sizes (the text is then no longer selectable). Split PDF can break the document into smaller parts, or Delete PDF Pages can remove pages you do not need to send.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are opened and processed in your browser, in a background thread. Nothing is uploaded, so the tool also works for confidential documents.
